In 1893, the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago became the birthplace of the “Midway”. When the exposition closed, the idea of many attractions being grouped together exploded and amusement parks sprang up all across the country.

The western shore of Onondaga Lake proved to be an ideal spot for this idea to thrive and local picnic groves were turned into thriving amusement parks. Supported by local trolley companies, seven large amusement parks entertained visitors to Onondaga Lake during the Gay 90s.
