|Origins of Jazz: The Jazz Piano with Dick Ford Trio|
Event Type: All Ages|
Start Time: 2:00 PM
End Time: 4:00 PM
To kick off the 2019 Origins of Jazz Series, Dick – who is a gifted educator and lecturer – will demonstrate several different styles of jazz piano including ragtime, boogie woogie and stride.
Accompanied by Jimmy Johns on drums and Mike Solazzo on bass, pianist Dick Ford will lead jazz fans at show through a set of ragtime, swing and more at the Assistive Living community of Brookdale Liverpool, located at 4055 Long Branch Road.
With its 88 black-and-white keys, the piano is a unique and varied instrument. It can play melody, harmony and bass, making it capable of functioning as both an accompanying as well as a lead instrument. And of course, it is a magnificent solo instrument. As jazz piano music developed, the rhythm possibilities improved enormously, making this instrument sound like a full orchestra.
Offsite at Brookdale Liverpool, 4055 Long Branch Road
Parking at Brookdale is limited. Some spaces will be available on the side of the service road to the right of the building and in the lot it leads to behind the building. Overflow parking will be along Long Branch Road and in the school parking lot adjacent to Brookdale. Those who can’t walk distances can be dropped off in the driveway in front of Brookdale.
The project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council of the Arts. Russ Tarby of the Liverpool Is the Place committee works with the LPL to program the series.
