|Origins of Jazz: The Jazz Piano with Mark Nanni & the Intention|
Event Type: All Ages|
Start Time: 2:00 PM
End Time: 4:00 PM
With its 88 black-and-white keys, the piano is a unique and varied instrument. It can play melody, harmony and bass, making it capable of functioning as both an accompanying as well as a lead instrument. And of course, it is a magnificent solo instrument. As jazz piano music developed, the rhythm possibilities improved enormously, making this instrument sound like a full orchestra. At the library, Mark and his two bandmates – drummer Josh Dekaney and bassist Don Martin – will perform standards from the Great American Songbook which best represent the conversational piano trio style as pioneered by the trios led by piano-master Bill Evans.
