Earth’s climate has varied for as long as our planet has been around. But with very rare exceptions, those changes have occurred at snails’ pace compared with what we’re experiencing now. There’s no longer any question but that human activities — mainly release of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases — are causing Earth to receive more energy from the sun than it can get rid of. Global warming is the inevitable result. This talk will look at direct evidence for warming as recorded by thermometers worldwide, along with some of the countless secondary effects, many of which accelerate the warming trend and in themselves are quite unwelcome.
